About Kathleen Ruth
Welcome, and thank you for taking a minute to seek something new! I am Kathleen Ruth, a writer who thinks she writes love stories, but really tells the story within the story. I have a heart to weave tales that are not only centered around love but contain depth and a sometimes tragic or traumatic history. This platform allows me to connect with readers, share the journey known as life, and delve into the pieces behind my stories.
Enjoy exploring my website where I share about my various projects, delve into my own history, and give glimpses into what's on the horizon. You may even decide to take up a new and interesting hobby! I invite you to dive into my world and discover the story within the story.
My Background
My family
I have been married to my husband for over 20 years, and we have 3 children. We met and eloped (in secret) when he was in the Navy, and we've been keeping the surprises coming ever since! He tolerates the chickens and I let him keep his 1980 Corvette (he had to call my sister and get her to convince me to let him get it and now I hold the coveted "Corvette Card." I did not use it in the Great Chicken Debate of 2025, which I won. Easily).
My career
After teaching English 9-11, I felt the call to be home when my second child was due. I listened. And it was so worth it. I ran a daycare out of my home for 8 years so other parents could work without having daycare center costs break the bank. I returned to teaching, this time elementary school, when the school five others and I opened in 2019, and I have been there ever since! I have taught first grade; fifth grade; geography, grammar, cursive, and Bible for fourth grade; and writing and history for sixth grade.
My education
I hold a Bachelor of Art in English from SUNY Geneseo, NY and a Master of Science in Literacy Education 5-12 from St. John Fisher College, NY. I was certified to teach in secondary schools before I left the profession to be at home with my kids. I continue to educate myself in the classical tradition through reading, online seminars and courses, and attending conferences.
