Why do I write?

It's not as complicated a question as one would think.

We were made to create.

The way we create and the manner and variety and intensity and frequency in which we create is one characteristic that makes us different from anything else in creation.

Writing is just one of those ways, for me and for humankind.

And everything we create, in all of the different ways, starts in the same place: the imagination.

So use yours. In whatever capacity you have been gifted.

Me? I write.

Untitled YA Fiction

My first attempt in 2007 was a teenage vampire novel. It is unfinished due to the fact that I only wrote when I felt like it.

Any writer knows that if you only write when you feel like it, you will never finish.

Let Go

My first finished attempt in 2008. I wrote every day from 7:30-9 PM and twice on Sundays. That regimented schedule produced a 187-page novel that I one day hope to expand and improve.

Harry Silliputti and
the Magic Mailbox

This was a middle grade fiction that I co-wrote with my sister.

Our father, who we lost in 2003, would tell us Harry Silliputti stories before bed every night growing up.

We don't remember many of them, but we honored him with what could be the first book in a series.

"Fostering Literacy Among Adolescents"

The title of my Master's thesis shows that even as a young twenty-something, reading shaped who I was and am as a person and an educator.
